Stephen P. Walsh, USMA ‘87 D4
Our Country We Strengthen -
Classmates, I am so sorry to have to tell all of you this. It is with very heavy heart and great sadness that I must tell you that our beloved friend, classmate, and brother has passed on to the Lord. Steve Walsh passed away this morning from complications of a severe stroke he suffered late Monday. Please pray for the Walsh family. I will pass on more to you as I find out.
God Bless -

I did not know Steve at school. I was at the funeral home tonight. I felt out of place at first, not knowing or recognizing anyone. Within a few moments, Steve’s Dad introduced himself, because he didn’t know who I was. I told him I was a classmate of Steve’s from the Academy. His face brightened immediately. I spent over an hour and a half talking with him. He told me stories of Steve from the day he was born until the day Steve left us. His Dad seemed to be holding up well, but I think if he met more of us tomorrow and Monday it might help him keep his spirits up. I have two events that I have to attend on Staten Island during the day, but I’m going to make it back tomorrow night to support Steve’s Dad and family.

Gary,
That was a pretty stand-up thing to do given you mentioned you didn’t even know Steve. I challenge any other school in the country to see if classmates show up at a funeral for someone they didn’t even know. Another reason to be proud to be a graduate. I didn’t know Steve either, but I would have liked to.
87,
In memory of Steve Walsh our class made a donation in his name to the National CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children). They are an organization that provides advocacy services for abused and neglected children. Steve was a long time passionate volunteer with this organization. His brother could not think of a better way to honor Steve’s memory.
If interested in making a personal donation, you can do so through their website at http://www.nationalcasa.org. Donations can be made in Steve’s memory by clicking the box at the bottom of the form on the website that says “this donation is in honor or memory of someone”. Here is the rest of the contact information for the organization:
