Description

You’re no longer sitting on corps squad tables. Your 10K PR is behind you. No one is asking you to suit up for this weekend’s big game. But that doesn’t mean you’re going to quit trying. This group is intended for weekend warriors, foodies, nutritionistas, and folks who want to live to be the oldest grad at the C, F, and I Co parade.

  • I have never tried SOTOL. My favorite Tequila recipe only involves a lime and salt. If you want to try something new try a Caipirinha. It’s a Brazilian drink. Buy Cachaca (pronounced Kah-cha-hsa) at your local liquor store it’s rum-like but distilled directly from the cane sugar. (apparently the Brazilians were not patient enough to make mollasses first). Then:

    Ingredients
    2 tsp Granulated Sugar
    8 Lime Wedges
    2 ½ Ounces of Cachaca

    Directions
Muddle the sugar into the lime wedges in an old fashion glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour Cachaca into glass, mix well

The more snooty folks make the same thing with VODKA instead of Cachaca. That drink is called a Caipiroska

    Salud!

  • Kiko: Got any suggestions for Sotol? I picked up a bottle by accident (was in the middle of the tequila section). It’s interesting but so far prefer traditional tequila in all of the drinks I’ve tried with it.

  • How about the perfect Mojito? Here you go!

    Ingredients
    2 tsp Granulated Sugar
    4 Lime Wedges
    4 – 5 Mint Leaves
2 ½ Ounces of Clear Rum

    Directions
Add the sugar and Mint Leaves to mortar and squeeze lime juice. Mash sugar, juice and mint leaves in syrup substance. Add rum to mixture and stir. Pour over ice into old fashion glass. Add Club Soda or 7-Up and stir. Garnish with sugar cane.

  • Here is a great recipe for Sangria with a Puerto Rican Kick. One warning…limit how many peaches you indulge in, they tend to soak up the rum and they have been know to make a ”reappearance”. Enjoy!

1 bottle (4/5 quart) dry red wine
    1 cup of sugar
1 cup dark Puerto Rican Rum
    1 cup orange juice
    ½ cup lime juice.
1 can (1 pound) sliced peaches

In a large pot, mix thoroughly, with a rubber spatula ingredients included in A, until sugar dissolves
Add contents of can of sliced peaches, including the syrup, and stir. Pour into glass pitcher and chill. Serve over ice in tall glass
Garnish with orange and lime wedges and peach slices.

  • I think this was a very good article and appropriate for the group.
