Cheers all – sorry if this is hitting you twice. Saw this and thought it might be interesting. AZNG EOD guy SSG Tom Rabjohn died in an IED related incident, but one that appears to have been designed specifically to lure and then kill an EOD team.
The IED was rigged in such a way that the remote vehicle didn’t work and the team would have to approach on foot. In addition to the standard artillery rounds, there was a remotely detonated anti-handling device. The story I heard was that a number of convoys and high value targets drove past this thing for days before the EOD guys got there.
Suspicion was that whoever was manning the IED had the knowledge and patience to wait for the specialists.
Anyone else got any knowledge of or comemnts about this sort of incident? Thanks for any thoughts.
